Software patents hinder innovation rather than "promote the useful arts". The patent holders are claims staking, rather than patenting inventions. When developing a new product, it is impossible to avoid trespassing on somebody's software patent, thereby setting up anybody who dares to innovate for "willful damages". Should software patents be abolished? How do we convince our legislators this issue requires urgent attention?
